Clarion Live! DevCon 2010 Presenters PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 29 July 2010 02:44
Clarion Live! DevCon 2010 Presenters!  After August 15th, we will be sending out a survey to all registered attendees to see what topics they would like to have covered!  This list will fill in soon with potential topics to choose from.  With this roster of presenters, you know this conference will be chock-full of amazing and interesting Clarion information!

  Presenter Possible Topics
Bob Foreman Customizing the IDE - (Smart Indentation, Code Completion, Code Snippets, Editor Highlighting, External Tools, etc.) (approx 30 min)
The new Clarion IDE has a deep well of tools and features that you may not have noticed. In this session we will explore the many options and tools available in the IDE.

Multi-DLL Project Management (approx 30 min)
One of the biggest features of the Clarion 7 IDE is the new project support. From a simple multi-app repository to a powerful batch compiler system, your projects are now on an order or magnitude more managable. Explore the different multi-project scenarios and options in this session.

Browse and Form Best Design Practices (approx 30 min)
The heart of all real world applications lies in how your data is presented and how fast you can get what you need.Using very little embeds and exclusively the built-in template options, this session discusses the best practices of browse and form design in the application generator environment.

Advanced ReportWriter Techniques (approx 45 min)
The Clarion 7 ReportWriter has many new features and options in your design arsenal. In this session we will explore some of the new controls, like the Chart and Pivot Grid, and also look at the fundamental elements of report scripting.

Interfacing your Win32 projects with the .NET Framework (approx 30 min)
The .NET Framework contains a rich library of visual controls and libraries that you can use to extend the behavior of your Clarion 7 Win32 applications. This session describes the steps to interface with a .NET assembly.

All about Reports (approx 45 min)
The combinations of design elements in the simple Report template can sometimes be daunting to the new developer. Should I use a report break or the Break Manager? What's the difference between Report Filters and Detail Filters? How important is the Data/Tables Pad in my design. These questions and much more will be explored.

   Bruce Johnson 1. It's a Mobile World (30 minutes)

Clearly current Clarion code cannot run on mobile devices. This session will explore the different options available to Clarion developers who wish to extend their offerings to mobile devices. We'll look at the various platforms, which tools are required for each one, and the pro's and cons of developing native apps versus web apps.

2. ABC Basics Explained (90 minutes)

It took a long time for me to "get" the way OOP programming worked. Once I got it though it became completely obvious what was happening. A 90 minute session at the Devcon 1999 lead to a whole-day class, then a two-day class, then a book. If you missed all of that, then this session will go back to the beginning and show you how ABC works, and how to read OOP code.

3. If Clarion is so Good, Why Aren't I rich yet? (30 minutes)

You want the truth? You can't handle the truth. In this no-holds-barred session you'll be challenged to answer this question for yourself. You'll be offended, but deep deep down, in a place you don't talk about at parties, perhaps you'll see something you recognise. If not at least you can laugh at others. Warning, not for sensitive developers, parental discretion is advised.

Dave Harms ".NET for Clarion developers", a big picture look at what .NET dev is, the major tools, the different ways of building applications and how all of that relates to existing Clarion development. My goal is to have folks come out of the presentation  saying "oh, so *that's* what .NET development is all about".  There will be lots of compare and contrast with Win32 Clarion dev, and some comparisons of Clarion with Clarion#, and I'll certainly talk about interop.
